New Features
Warning: from this version onwards, a new license certificate for version 5 is required. Please contact your supplier if necessary.
DataSet Vision now enables users to modify the size of parameter dialog boxes as well as the size of dialog boxes displaying the list of values for parameters. (Ref: E1082).
DataSet Vision now includes a new option which displays the complete path of the project open in the upper bar in the program. Select Tools> Options. (Ref: E1178).
The DataSet Vision installation program now adds an additional command which, if necessary, enables the user to launch the configurator which is run at the end of each installation. (Ref: E992). (d7vWZConfig.exe Program)
The DataSet Vision installation program now offers to install SQL Server Express instead of MSDE, if the user wants to install this database. (Ref: E1182).
Certain characters are now forbidden in the item names for DataSet Vision projects. At present the forbidden characters are as follows: ! : \t. (Ref: E1200).
Queries
The command to create a new query is now directly automatic. To create a native SQL query, use the command <Query> <Create Native SQL>. To retrieve a Query/400, use the command <Insert><Query/400>. (Ref : E1247).
When running a query, if the user is in the Table or SQL tab, then they can automatically go to the Query tab and the query will run in the data grid. (Ref: E1229).
When creating a query, if the user double-clicks on a table in the Table tab then they automatically go directly to the Query tab with all the fields selected. (Ref: E1230).
Criteria: it is now possible in a click to define the criteria for a field by creating an automatic parameter which displays the distinct values for the field concerned when the query is run. This parameter can be modified if necessary. (Ref: E1231).
A new property is proposed only in Preview mode for a query in a data grid: a value for the first N records, limited to 50 rows by default, without affecting the number of records when a query is exported to an output format such as a cube or a report. The default value can be modified. (Ref: E1232).
When creating a query, if the user runs it without selecting a field, all the fields will be selected by default instead of displaying a message saying that no fields were selected. (Ref: E1240).
When a parameter calls an ASCII List file, values or a query, a new All option in the selection type enables the user to use all the values contained in the ASCII List file, the list of values or data returned by the query as values for this parameter, without asking the user any questions. This is useful as the user can, for example, modify the list of values just by modifying the ASCII List file without modifying the query. (Ref: E1083).
Certain characters will now be forbidden in parameter names in order to avoid errors which could be generated especially with Web Server. Authorized characters are A to Z, a to a, space and underscore. Accents and all special characters are now forbidden. (Ref: E1246).
It is now possible to come back to the previous color state for the data grid in a query in order to avoid to send a white background to Excel (Ref: E1090).
Reports
DataSet Vision enables the user to define multiple run conditions on a report’s data fields and on picture fields. For example, the user can define several colours depending on ranges of values for a result, or display different pictures according to a result. (Ref: E1205).
DataSet Vision offers run conditions where the user can format the zone concerned according to a condition. (Ref: E1243).
DataSet Vision displays two additional columns in a report’s item list in order to locate objects with run conditions and those with a hyperlink more easily. (Ref: E1242).
DataSet Vision enables users to create a report directly from cube data, without retrieving the cube’s definition. Each column of the cube will become a column in the report, each row in the cube will become a row in the report. The fields created in the report can be manipulated as data fields (attributes, colour, font, formula etc.) (Ref: E1199).
DataSet Vision enables users to create more powerful models including Title, Pictures and Logos, first column position and attributes for static and dynamic fields in the Page Header and Detail Blocks. (Ref: E1234).
Cubes
DataSet Vision has added a new Cubes tab to the Tools> Options command with an option to automatically recalculate cube data when printing or exporting a cube, this option is selected by default (it was also used by default in the past). However, now the user can select that either cubes should not be recalculated or that the user should be asked each time before they print or export a cube. (Ref: E1179).
A cube can now be created directly against a SQL Server OLAP database using Analysis Services.
When creating a cube it is now possible to move the separator bar between two panes presented in Step 2/2 of the Cube Creation Wizard. (Ref: E1175).
It is now possible to add cube-specific parameters and apply filters for existing cube data. This is especially useful for cubes directly connected to OLAP databases which are already cubes or to filter cube data without having to recalculate it. (Ref: E1235).
Certain characters are now forbidden in cube dimension names in order to avoid possible errors. Authorized characters are A to Z, a to z, space and underscore. Reminder: a dimension name must be no longer than 24 characters. (Ref: E1201).
In the Cube Creation Wizard and in the general options for cubes, it is now possible to specify that the names of the months must be used instead of numbers. The month displayed in the cubes will respect the order of the months of the year, that is January to December.
Output format
DataSet Vision now offers three options to manage spaces for ASCII output formats: “Do Not Do Anything”, “Complete Fields with Spaces”, or “Delete Spaces”. (Ref: E1078).
For ASCII Output Formats, DataSet now enables users to define column widths directly in a query via the Properties pane for each column. (Ref: E1264)
Reports exported to Excel now follow new rules and no longer export hidden fields. The rules are as follows: to display report fields in the same column of an Excel sheet, then assign the same label to all these fields in the Description zone for each of these fields’ properties. This zone will be used as the column header in Excel and all the other fields with the same description will be vertically aligned with the first column found. (Ref: E1245).
EBIS
The EBIS User Interface has been updated, buttons and dialog boxes now automatically adapt to the Windows environment which it operates on (in particular under Windows XP and Windows Vista) (Ref: E1227).
The reports used in EBIS are now objects displaying results in PDF format (Adobe Acrobat Reader) with the corresponding tool bar enabling the user to navigate through the pages, print and save the report to a PDF file. From EBIS Web Server, reports are no longer generated in a new window but directly in the Report object requested. The HTML format has been deleted. (Ref: E866).
The right-click ChartFX Client Server Control Object> Edit command has been added to EBIS graphs, (this command was already available in DataSet Vision report graphs). This command enables the user to access graph properties. (Ref: E869).
EBIS now allows the user to define a data type in a text box. The types provided are as follows: String (the default value authorizes any characters), Numeric, Date, Datetime, Time and Password (the latter enables the user to hide passwords entries). (Ref: E870).
Cross-tables have been replaced by cubes in EBIS. Several cube options enable the user to display/hide certain cube commands to/from the end user. (Ref: E1100).
EBIS now includes a new option which displays the complete path of the project open in the upper bar in the program. Select Tools> Options. (Ref: E1178).
EBIS now enables users to delete or add objects to the list of objects for which we define a tab order. Press DEL or right-click and select Remove to delete an object. Right-click and select Add to add an object. Objects added will be placed at the end of the list by default, however it is possible to move them. (see the new feature E1193) (Ref: E1103).
EBIS now enables users to modify the order with which objects must be updated or respect a tab order. To do so, select the object and perform a drag-and-drop operation to move the object from the top to the bottom. (Several objects can be moved at the same time, please see the new feature E1104) (Ref: E1193).
EBIS now enables users to select several objects in a dialog box and define a tab and update order. Press SHIFT or CTRL and select the object(s). It is then possible to delete or move objects. (Ref: E1104).
Graphs in EBIS now enable users to manage the secondary Y axis (this feature was already available for DataSet Vision Report graphs). (Ref: E1189).
When an object is updated by a list of items in a DataSet Vision project (queries, reports or cubes) EBIS only displays the items which are authorized to be visible in the DataSet Vision project (right-click and select Properties> Visible Yes/No). (Ref: E1190).
When an object is update by a list of items in a DataSet Vision project (queries, reports or cubes) EBIS enables the user to add a filter and for example only list items whose name starts by a character string. Example: Fact*. (Ref: E1166).
Parameters can now be assigned to the RunEbis.exe <Project_Name.wfd> command. The syntax is as follows:
"<path>\RunEbis.exe" "<path>\<Project_Name.wfd>" <Dialog_Name >
<Parameter_1_Name> <Parameter_1_Value> <Paramter_2_Name> <Parameter_2_Value>
Example with demonstration files which are installed by default:
"C:\Program Files\NetReport\WebPortal\RunEbis.exe" "C:\Program Files\NetReport\Webportal\Samples\europa map.wfd" europa country_param France year_param 2007
Note: add a pair of straight quotation marks if one of the items in a parameter contains a space(s). (Ref: E1208).
EBIS now enables users to name a dialog box by specifying a parameter name framed by a number sign (#): for example, if a double-click action should call a dialog box named France, Spain or Germany according the value of the country_param parameter, then specify #country_param# as the dialog box to call instead of selecting the name of an existing dialog box. (Ref: E1209).
EBIS now displays columns in projects (as in DataSet Vision projects) in order to display the following properties for each dialog box: Creation Date, Author, Last Modified Date and the Description. (Ref: E1211).
It is now possible to use the TAB key to move through option buttons and check boxes to edit values. (Ref: E1219).
The text displayed in a button can now be displayed on several lines. (Ref: E1220).
It is now possible to close an EBIS dialog box by pressing ESC. (Ref: E1221).
EBIS now includes a new option which displays the complete path of the project open in the upper bar in the programme. Select Tools> Options. (Ref: E1178).
Cross Tables
From this version onwards, the cross-table module is no longer offered by default, it has been replaced by the Cube module which will be maintained in the future. However, DataSet Vision continues to support the existing cross-tables for clients who already used them in DataSet Vision projects. We recommend that these users start using cubes as soon as possible as DataSet Vision cubes have higher performance and a richer feature set. (Ref: E1206).
Bugs Fixed
The known problems in version 4.20.05 which have been fixed in this version, are as follows:
- If the user edited data fields in a graph a second time by using the Select Data Series dialog box which enables them to select several columns, the field order was modified. This problem has been fixed. (B-3290).
DataSet Server 5.0
Warning: from this version onwards, a new license certificate for version 5 is required. Please contact your supplier if necessary.
DataSet Administrator
The command <File> <Import Supervisor> has been removed from DataSet Administrator and DataSet Model (Ref : E1255)
DataSet Model
DataSet Model allows now to refresh the table descriptions in the Relations Tab in order to get the new columns, the modified columns and to not display anymore deleted columns (Ref : E1252)
DataSet Model allows now to insert a column into a Domain by selecting the required Table Alias. This is especially useful when a table has been inserted twice under distinct alias names. (Ref : E1253)

DataSet Web Server 5.0
Warning: from this version onwards, a new license certificate for version 5 is required. Please contact your supplier if necessary.
EBIS via Web Server now also benefits from all the new features announced for EBIS in this document in the DataSet Vision part, in particular for the PDF reports integrated in EBIS instead of being systematically in new windows as well as the integration of Cubes in EBIS (Ref: E1236).
The presentation of web pages has been reorganized and relooked to make it more user friendly and offer more parameterization options. Three main panes can be displayed or minimized: one pane to manage parameters and criteria, another to manage output formats and exports and a third pane to display the result. (Ref: E1248).
The presentation of menus in the left pane of web pages has also been reorganized in order for the user to expand a more user-friendly vertical tree structure. (Scheduler on the left and a Tree loaded in memory with the +/- signs on the right) (Ref: E1249).
It is now possible to export results in file formats via Web Server directly to a destination on a disk without previewing the result. (Ref: E771).
The task scheduler will allow to run several synchronized jobs (Vision export + command lines)
The passwords will be now encrypted in the D7TASKS.XML file and the tasks will not be run anymore through a VBS script.
When generating a cube via the Web Server, it is now possible for the user to modify and save the cube’s presentation as well as the data or only save the data. This enables users to retrieve the customized presentation they used for a cube when refreshing data at a later date offline.
